What usually goes wrong with a custom fabricator
You specify a piece. It is accepted. Then months pass with no information, the date slips, and you find out at the same time your client does. Or the shop builds to the drawing rather than to the building, and the install day becomes a scribing exercise nobody budgeted for.
Both are communication failures, not craft failures. This shop is organized around not having them.
How we work with a design practice
- We build from your drawings. Architectural drawings, a written specification, or shop drawings we develop and submit for your approval. Where a detail will not survive in solid wood, because of movement, span, or grain direction, you hear it during review, not at install.
- Samples on the real material. Finish samples are made on the actual species and the actual stock, not on a generic sample chain. Candidate slabs are photographed in natural light with a scale reference so what you present to your client is what will arrive.
- We field measure. For millwork we measure the opening ourselves once framing and drywall are complete, then revise the shop drawings against real dimensions before anything is cut.
- Firm dates, held. A confirmed start date at deposit and milestone updates through the build, so the schedule is never something you have to chase. We turn down work rather than accept a date we cannot hold.
- One point of contact. Thomas Truman. Not a project coordinator relaying messages from the floor.
- Your client relationship, your terms. We will stay entirely behind your specification, or be introduced. Your call.
What we are good for, and what we are not
We are a strong fit for a specified one of a kind piece, a run of built ins in a residential project, a set of vanities, or anything where the material itself has to carry the design. We are especially useful when a project calls for salvaged old growth redwood or figured claro walnut, because sourcing that material is most of the difficulty and it is what this shop does.
We are the wrong shop for high volume tract work, for anything that needs sixty identical units, or for a project where the schedule leaves no room to find the right wood. We would rather say that in the first conversation than in the fourth month.

Do you offer trade terms to interior designers and architects?
Yes. Trade pricing, direct shop contact, and project level coordination are available to working designers, architects, and design build firms. Terms are set per firm rather than by a published discount table, because a single specified piece and a full house of millwork are different relationships. Tell us about your practice in your first inquiry.
Will you work from my drawings and specifications?
Yes. We build from architectural drawings, designer specifications, or shop drawings we develop with you and submit for approval. Where a detail will not work in solid wood, because of movement, span, or grain direction, we say so during review rather than discovering it at install.
Can you produce finish samples and slab options for client presentations?
Yes. We prepare finish samples on the actual species being used, and we photograph candidate slabs in natural light with a scale reference so you can present real options rather than renderings. For local projects, designers and their clients are welcome at the shop by appointment.
How do you handle lead times on a construction schedule?
With a firm date given at deposit, and updates at every milestone so it never becomes a question you have to chase. We would rather turn down a project than accept a date we cannot hold.
Do you white label, or will my client know who built the piece?
Whatever the relationship needs. We are happy to remain the fabricator behind your specification and to communicate exclusively through you. We are equally happy to be introduced. It is your client relationship and you set the terms.
Can you ship to my client anywhere in the country?
Yes. Insured white glove delivery to any of the fifty states, crated for transit and placed in the room. We confirm the delivery path, including door widths, stair turns, and elevator dimensions, before the piece is built.
